In 2006 I created a survey on VHF Contesting and sent it out to a number of the email reflectors for weak signal groups. I expected about 50-100 responses but received over 300. Many did not just answer the 20 questions that I had in the survey (most of which were multiple choice), but instead chose to include their own comments on the subject. I compiled the results of the survey and published them in the 2006 VHF Contesting Survey which was provided to the VUAC for their consideration as well as the participants in the survey. The survey was timely as the VUAC was in deliberations to suggest changes to the contest rules to the ARRL Member Services Committee in the same time frame. Ultimately, suggestions to change the rules were made by the VUAC and were quickly adopted (though not in their entirety) by the ARRL.
